Open Education Global is now ready for nominations for the 2023 Open Education Awards for Excellence (OE Awards). OE Awards is an annual celebration of innovation, advancement, and leadership in the open education sector. Since the inaugural ceremony in 2011, 211 open education innovators and innovations have been celebrated.
The OE Awards has always been a community-based transparent process. This year (like every year) we invite all of those involved or interested in open education to suggest people and projects that they feel are worth recognising. If you are new to nominating for OEAwards, please read the guidelines first.
This year there are 16 award categories that are loosely grouped around four focus areas: People in Open, What We Share, How We Share, and the Specials Awards. Explore all the award categories, and get some nomination inspiration by clicking on the “Inspire me!” button for each category.
Each year, the categories are reviewed to keep abreast of fast-moving trends that impact and drive Open Education. The Special Awards this year focus on Open Resilience, Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI), Enacting SDGs, and WildCard. The WildCard category was created to acknowledge that we probably haven’t (and cannot) cover every aspect of open education. It invites open educators to create their own award criteria, and acknowledges that everything is possible with open education.
Other OEGlobal innovations for the OE Awards 2023 include:
- You can now read the website and even nominate your ideas for winners in your own language – Google Translate has been added to the site, allowing you to choose your language in the menu located on in the lower right section of each page. Translation also happens on the nomination form – we encourage you to submit a nomination in your preferred language.
- Review this year’s sixteen awards in the new Category Explorer, where we have added options to be inspired by seeing the previous winners for each award.
- Get Organized First! To help you prepare your nomination, you can copy a Google Doc template for the Individual Awards and a separate one for the Open Assets, Open Practices, and Special Awards.
- Are you ready to nominate? The nomination process opens May 15, 2023. See the Nominations Guide for an overview of the information you will need or if you are ready, go directly to the 2023 Awards Nomination form.
Nominations are open until June 30. Thereafter, the shortlist and winners will be announced according to this timeline.
