We are pleased to announce that UNESCO has awarded Patronage for Open Education Global 2021 (OE Global 2021) Conference. OE Global 2021 is hosted by the Université de Nantes, in Nantes, France, 5 – 7 October 2021.
Professor Colin de La Higuera, UNESCO Chair in teacher training technologies with OER & Chair of the OE Global 2021 Conference explains the significance of the Patronage below:
“We have been working with UNESCO on Open Education for some time now. The fact that UNESCO supports so strongly and visibly an event that it doesn’t organize itself shows that we are all going in the same, in the right direction.
UNESCO has been involved with Open Education for nearly two decades. In fact, the term “OER” was coined at a UNESCO Forum in 2002! In 2019, the UNESCO General Conference adopted the UNESCO OER Recommendation. The Recommendation encourages and supports the development and sharing of openly licensed learning and teaching materials, benefiting students, teachers and researchers worldwide. This Recommendation is essential: Having as many countries as possible implement it is the next step.
To conclude, UNESCO Patronage for our upcoming event is a very important step forward. We are extremely pleased about these developments and are looking forward to making the Nantes edition of the Open Education Global Conference a success.”
